We offer individual, couples (Louisa Only) and 4-handed massages. When you come in to Healing Hands Massage your session will be customized, with each visit being unique. Before beginning each massage you will have a pre-consult with your massage therapist to discuss your therapeutic needs for the treatment session. The following are some of the modalities that we integrate into our massage sessions, often blending more than one, to provide the most effective therapeutic experience we have to offer:
SwedishSwedish massage is the classic go-to massage. It is typically a full-body massage that uses a gentle touch. It’s a good beginning for people new to massages. It can help calm your nervous system, which encourages a relaxed emotional state of mind and directly impacts your muscles. This technique aims to promote relaxation by releasing muscle tension.

Deep TissueDeep tissue massage uses sustained, slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. Deep tissue massage helps to to relax tight muscles and to treat chronic and/or acute muscle pain. There are many other benefits of deep tissue massage, which include: reduced anxiety, reduced inflammation and faster healing by increasing blood flow.

Myofascial Therapy
Myofascial therapy is an alternative medicine therapy that can be helpful in treating skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles. With this technique, your therapist will slowly manipulate the tissues with a focus on releasing the fascia (connective) tissue to allow the muscles and tendons to move more freely. This pressure is meant to release the restriction in the connective tissue so that you have greater range of motion and less pain, more blood and lymphatic flow. It’s great for opening up tightness in your neck, shoulders and your upper and lower back.

Trigger PointIn a trigger-point massage, the massage therapist uses focused and direct pressure to target trigger points, thereby increasing blood flow to the areas to help them release. A trigger point is a tiny muscle spasm or tight spot in the tissue where blood is not flowing through properly. They are sore, painful spots--often called knots—found in muscles. Sometimes, these trigger points can cause pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point massage helps work out those knots and reduce the pain associated with them. This therapy can provide much relief for people who have injuries, chronic pain, or a specific issue or condition.

Sports MassageSports massages are similar to deep-tissue massages, but they zero in on the muscles that take a beating when you play sports or do another repetitive physical activity. As athletes use their bodies differently than the average person, a sports massage can get help to break up muscle tightness and address sports injuries. In addition to the physical benefits, sports massage can help an athlete to mentally prepare for their activity or competition.

Prenatal/Postpartum MassageDuring a prenatal massage, you will usually be positioned lying on your side rather than on your stomach or back. Pillows, bolsters, and/or padding may be used to support your back, knees, arms, and/or feet. Prenatal massages are great for helping moms-to-be relax, and can help lessen the aches and pains of growing a baby. They are wonderful for taking pressure off the hips and can help reduce swelling in the feet and legs. It also helps to relieve stress, and when mom is relaxed and feeling well, the baby benefits, too. Postpartum massage helps to restore your muscles that have been stressed due to carrying your child while pregnant and by caring for your newborn child.

Hot Stone TherapyBy applying Hot Stones directly to your skin, the stones help to loosen muscles and relieve tension. Sometimes stones are used to massage the body and they may also be held in the hands of the person receiving the massage. Heat has long been used to ease muscle tension and pain, increasing blood flow to the affected area. It may also reduce muscle spasms and increase flexibility and range of motion. Hot Stone Therapy is used to alleviate ailments like back pain and stress.

LomilomiDuring a Lomilomi massage, the massage therapist makes use of their forearms and the hands in a fluid, rhythmic motion, massaging different parts of the body at the same time. This helps the client relax as the brain can't focus on two different areas at once. By not working on areas in isolation, a deep sense of stability and peace is achieved.

Craniosacral TherapyCST is a gentle technique that uses light touch to examine membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. The intent of this holistic treatment, is to relieve stress, trauma, pain, tensions and restrictions. Through light touch, an individual's self-healing mechanism is triggered to help reunite the mind and body, and to restore harmony, vitality and balance. You may feel a decrease in pain or an increase in function immediately after the session, or the effects may develop gradually over the next few days and continue weeks after the session.

Assisted StretchingStretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in our joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you need to use the muscles, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. Assisted stretching works to reduce potential injury, increase overall flexibility, and relieve muscle fatigue by increasing the body's range of motion. Some other benefits of assisted stretching include improved posture, better circulation, reduced anxiety and better sleep. This modality is 30 minutes.

Photonic Wand Therapy Photonic Wand Therapy is a treatment that may help skin, muscle tissue, and other parts of your body heal. Light therapy can lower pain, increase circulation, speed cellular repair and activate acupoints. Our photonic wand therapy uses a light with a wavelength of 660nm, which is the strength needed to penetrate skin and reach deeper tissue layers, illuminating damaged tissues and stimulating cells. Light therapy increases blood flow to any given area of injury or imbalance, encouraging the body to work towards healing itself. This can help cells repair themselves and become healthier, resulting in healing of skin and muscle tissue. Your therapist may use the photonic wand throughout your session where it is thought to be beneficial.
